Parallels between Susan Boyle (Britains Got Talent) and John Swinneys petitions committee meeting
There is only one way that you would not know who Susan Boyle is, and that is if you have been lying face down in a cave, in the dark with your eyes closed, with your hands over your ears. Her sudden fame and popularity is one of the phenomenons of this new age that we live in, where the internet is shrinking our world…
Anyway, this site is not the Susan Boyle fan club, although fans we are - along with the rest of the planet - but rather I just thought that drawing a parallel between Susan Boyles facing down the judges of Britains got talent and John Swinneys meeting with the petitions comittee. This is probably the only time that you will ever hear any form of parliamentary business discussed in this fashion, but I have never been one to shrink away from creative ways to approach my subject matter.
Susan Boyle managed to hold her own in front of the judging panel, and that is what John Swinney will have to do in just a few hours. Rather than sing, I hope that John Swinney will speak passionatley about the continued debate concerning the McKenzie friend scandel that has gripped the scottish political scene recently.
If John Swinney can speak as passionaltly on behalf of the people of Scotland as Susan Boyle manged to sing, then Stewart Mackenzie can consider his long fought case all but won. There is no doubt, that so much hangs on the outcome of this meeting.
I wonder if John Swinney has taken any inspiration from fellow Scot Susan Boyle. I hope he has, as the romantic in me likes to think of the humble little people in the world inspiring and impacting our countries leaders.
Unlike Susan Boyle, John Swinney will already have our complete support when he walks out in front of his panel. He will not have to win us over as Susan Boyle had to. John, you have our support! Now go and do us proud - we wait with baited breath the result of your meeting…
Do it for Scotland, and the Scottish people.
